There are various ways to make your garden look right out of a magazine cover, be it your back yard or your front garden. Of course, you can opt for a professional landscaper if you do not have the time but there is nothing more worthwhile and satisfying that doing it yourself.
One of latest and popular gardening ideas is to have retaining walls. These walls can give your garden a sense of stability and permanence. Then the real fun begins with what to feature within the garden such as types of plants, stakes and fiber glass garden critters. While wondering the streets, some beautiful gardens can be seen with retaining wall rock gold coast.
Using stonework for your retaining wall is the best option but it can be back breaking labor. Other materials such as bush rock, sea rock and rock stone.
Here are some tips on how to get started,
- Make sure to measure out the area the retaining wall will be placed and then dig a “ditch”.
- Select the type of stone from the supply yard. Heavy stone or boulders can be too heavy and very tiring to move around. Also look for stone that is the same colour and size and if it matches with the style of your home.
- Build the wire cage according to the measurements and burry it into the “ditch” and fill it about 3 inches of recycle rock and rubble at the base. Thereafter, use cement and place the pipes for drainage.
- Fill it with rocks and pour the cement until the wall is completed to the required height. Make sure to gradually slope the wall inward as you build upwards, about 1 inch for every 12 inches. Place the drainage pipes every few layers between the stone and the cement mixture.
- Sprinkle some soil around the wall and crevices so that this makes it easier for planting.
- Once the cement is hard and dry you can marry plants to your retaining wall. The best foliage to grow on retaining walls is moss and lichen. But make sure to have the wall moist and well watered during the dry season.
- Potted plant can be hung with concrete nails which can be driven into the wall.
- Other than moss, some of the that can be planted are dianthus, lewisia, alpines or saxifraga.
There are no limits to building your own retaining wall, you can build steps, curves and split levels, either design they will give your garden that extra special touch.
