Fabric Nappies or Disposable Diapers

Cute baby

Many parents are at a dilemma on whether to use fabric nappies or disposable diapers for their babies. This is especially more prevalent in young and first time mothers. It is also common in those women who isolate themselves and are not there when their peers meet to discuss women and motherhood issues. Picking the best option for your child need not be a hard thing if you have the right information.

The proponents of cloth nappies have a strong case against those who think otherwise. The nappies, it seems, have more benefits than the disposable diapers. It is upon the parent then to interrogate each method deeper and choose what they think is the best for their baby. This article will look at those advantages so that new mothers can make clear decisions.

The first benefit that easily comes to mind is that they are environment-friendly. Their ability to be washed and re-used for many more times has a positive impact on the environment. Disposable diapers have been reputed as one of the biggest contributors negatively affecting the surroundings owing to the huge landfill they cause. Developed countries use billions of diapers every year, causing a huge problem on how to get rid of them.

When they were first made, disposable diapers took wood pulp as a major component. These were seen to be excellent at absorbing the wetness. But because they are not re-usable trees continued to be felled furthering the environment crisis even more. It is a known fact that trees absorb the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and gives out oxygen, but when they are cut with abandon, it affects every living organism on the planet.

Over a period of two and a half years, a parent uses thousands of dollars on the disposables in what is apparently the industry accepted cost. On the other hand, fabric nappies can cost only a fraction of that. This disparity is so huge that any wise mother would think twice about disposables again. The money that can be saved is enough to get you that couch you have been yearning for.

Manufacturers tell you that the diapers are even smaller and super-absorbent than before. What they are not telling you is that the wood pulp they used before has been reduced and replaced by some chemical granules. These chemicals come into very close contact with the baby’s skin. The effect may not be immediate but it is unlikely to be positive.

On the other hand, the cotton nappies are among the safest things a baby can use. You can safely wash it with baby-friendly detergents and washing powders makes it even better. Professionals have argued that nappies cause rashes but it has since been found that this is not unique to them. Diapers cause rashes as well and may even be more efficient at it than nappies.

The modern nappies are cleverly made so that you do not have to fold them when you are putting them on the baby. They are fastened with Velcro and in some cases, little clips. This saves you a lot of time. To find some great products along with fabric nappies, head over to Baby Bella. This is an online retailer with a wide product range and plenty of great deals.
