most buy and sell companies get their products from China. Importing goods
created by Chinese manufacturers has
become very easy nowadays. If you are careful enough and you do your homework
properly, you can even conduct your entire business over the Internet.
The idea behind buying items from China for reselling is to
purchase at a high volume and low cost and to be able to mark-up for profit.
But getting into this business is not as easy as many people make it out to be.
The biggest danger is buying counterfeit items and selling the same to
unsuspecting consumers who will definitely complain when they realise they
bought a fake. Selling China goods would need a lot of preparation and a lot of
education especially if you are doing it for the first time.
The business model is pretty straight up. You find an item or
some items to sell, look for a solid supplier then resell these items at a
mark-up either online or in an actual store. But as in any type of business,
the devil is in the details. If you plan to succeed in this venture you need to
invest time and money on learning the ropes and on establishing the business.
While most of the work can possibly be done online, a lot of
research is required. There are online directories where you can search for a
product and get a listing of the manufacturers or suppliers who offer them. You
can also visit China and search for products in trade shows. Being actually there
would be ideal as you can visit the factories and see the quality of the
products with your own eyes.
If you are lucky, you can find a supplier who can take care
of the logistical side of the business including the shipment, customs
requirements, and the return and replacement of items. What is left for you to
take care of is the store front and marketing. You have to be sure though that
you are working with a legitimate supplier who has had some experience with this
kind of operations. You can ensure that you are dealing with a legitimate
company by conducting a background check on the company. You should also ask
for references that you can check, business licenses and insurance, and a
reliable payment system.
