Types Of Retaining Walls That Australian Landscapers Use

Many Gold Coast homeowners are realising that having their gardens designed by professionals is the right path to have enchanting homes that provide that rustic feel. Among the designs that they are taking up is having retaining walls erected around the home. The intentions of these are varied but they have one feature in common: they hold back soil or other material.

There are several types of retaining walls that give a home owner the chance to pick the most appropriate for their gardens. One of them that Gold Coast retaining walls professionals erect in homes is the massive gravity walls. These are made with concrete plus rock rubble and are then mortared together. The sheer weight of the wall itself prevents backfill. This wall can hold together backfill for up to three metres.

The other type that Gold Coast professionals create is the crib wall. This is made by using timber or pre-cast concrete which are designed as hollow blocks. Individual blocks are interlocked and then filled with coarse granules so that they can be self-draining and at the same time hold backfill.

Gabion walls are the other type of walls that Gold Coast residents are going for, especially those with large sloping gardens that have been affected by soil erosion. Gabion retaining walls use welded wire to hold rocks that prevent the soil from being eroded by action of water.

There is also mechanically stabilised earth walls which are the most common in most homes. Instead of the soil being held by the wall, it is the other way round. These are economical hence the reason many people prefer them.
