Retaining Walls – For Stability and Beauty!

Sandstone retaining walls Gold Coast

When it comes to constructing strong and durable homes and buildings it is important that the foundation of the building is strong. Depending on the soil conditions and topography of the construction site various techniques are used to fulfil this purpose. When it comes to constructions done on sloping lands and constructions which have a large number of levels the foundation is strengthened using retaining walls. They are mainly used to hold back landfills and soil and to prevent erosion due to rain or other forces. They are also used to create larger lawns and flat areas by filling up slopes with land fill and holding it back with retaining walls. This means that one has the ability to construct larger homes than if the slopes are left as they are without being filled up. Retention walls also allow rain water to seep through while it holds back the soil materials, allowing for proper drainage of rain water. Retaining walls are difficult to hide and when they are used, retaining walls are most often left exposed as part of the design. Materials such as concrete, granite, bush rock, timber and sandstone are commonly used to build retaining walls. One place in Australia where we see retaining walls being used abundantly is the Gold Coast . This city which is located on the southern border of Australia, just 80km away from Brisbane in the state of Queensland is a well known tourist destination. Since most of the state and the Gold Coast are predominantly covered by the great divider range, the land is mostly a rocky and mountainous terrain. Most of the city also used to be a wetland which has now been converted in to man-made islands and water ways. Although the topography of the Gold Coast is not ideal for construction its location in a convenient position which is close to the city while being far enough to stay away from its hustle and bustle, has resulted in a lot of settlements being constructed. Most of these settlements have used retaining walls in construction. Sandstone retaining walls Gold Coast are probably the ideal type of retaining walls as it is attractive with its warm earthy hue and is extremely porous allowing for proper and excellent seepage. Choice wisely when it comes to retaining walls as they greatly increases the stability and beauty of your building.
