Stone walls for rustic charm!

stone walls Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a well known tourist destination that is known for its sunny, tropical climate; surfing beaches; theme parks; and nightlife. It is located in the state of Queensland which is a highly populated, urban state at the foot of the Great Divider Range. It is known as the “sunshine state” and is the second largest state in Australia. The Gold Coast is located on the southern border of Australia, just 80km away from the state’s capital Brisbane. It is easily accessible by road, rail and air and being situated in a strategic location that is far enough from the city for its occupants to be free of the busy hustle and bustle of city life while being close enough to the city for people to access it easily and fast. It is an extremely convenient location and as such it is a top choice for new constructions and new settlements. Since most of the city’s landscape consists of a sloping terrain together with a system of manmade waterways and islands it is not a very easy construction zone. The slopes have lead to landfills being an inevitable part of construction projects in the Gold Coast. Landfills are used to level the slopes and create more spacious usable spaces on construction sites. As a result retaining walls are commonly used because they hold back the soil material used in landfills while allowing rain water to seep through; stopping soil erosion in filled lands. Materials used for retaining walls include rocks, timber, masonry, sandstone, rubble and boulders and stone walls Gold Coast is a common choice that is seen in this area. Stone walls can be made either from well cut stones in linear patterns or from natural rubble stones that are tightly packed together. The stones used are those that are locally found such as limestone, flint, granite and sandstone. They can have either a rough finish or a smooth, well buffed finish. Dry stone walls are a cheaper option as they do not use mortar and are less labour intensive. The type of retaining wall that you are going to use depends mostly on the type of aesthetic you want to achieve. If its rustic charm that you are looking for, then stone walls are the way to go!
