Events Taking Place in Ballina

As you take a tour of enchanting Ballina, you are bound to witness lots of other things apart from the attractions along the way. It is a vibrant city that seems to never sleep or take a rest. You are certain to come across many activities and events that are scattered throughout the year, and which attract throngs. This article looks at those events that you are likely to find taking place either in the city, at the coastline or deep in the villages.

The annual GEMFEST is one such event that brings together sellers and buyers of hand-crafted jewellery, rare fossils, minerals and other treasures. It happens every year and the venues may change from time to time. Because it attracts huge crowds, the organisers look for huge grounds that can accommodate them. You, as the tourist, can join in and purchase those gift items you will treasure forever.
While you are taking a stroll on the beach, you can also come across multitudes walking or running towards one direction. Take it easy for they are doing charity walks. One such event was the Ballina to Byron Bay Charity Walk which brought together so many people. The charity walk was to fundraise for a lifesaver helicopter that has been in service for over 30 years. The community spirit of these people is unmatched judging by the number of people who walked or ran the more than 35 kilometres to raise funds so that the services of the helicopter can be continued for long.

Another event that has remained as part of the Ballina residents is the Casino Beef Week. This festival was started in 1982 and continues to be held with a myriad of celebrations ranging from food, music and sports. The Casino area is where all this takes place and it brings together thousands of local and international tourists. Some events register more than 40,000 attendees! It is a festival aimed to promote the area of Casino and beef rearing being the main economic activity of the locals, they couldn’t find a better title for it.
The Northern Rivers Community Gallery also holds watercolour workshops that even beginners can take part in. Some local artists are known to organise these workshops to train budding water-colourists learn a thing or two about it. Therefore, do not be amazed at the huge multitude within the gallery at the same time you decide to tour it; they are likely to be art students attending the workshop. And you know what? You can as well join them!

You may also find multitudes flocking your hotel’s auditorium. That may be because they are attending the Autumn Exhibition of Ballina Arts. This may also afford you an opportunity to see wonderful pieces of art that would be on sale. The exhibition normally takes anything between two to three days and everybody is welcomed.

Another event that you may come across while in Ballina region is the Farmers Market days that take place regularly. The items on display range from fresh produce, meat to seafood and the local vegetables. They offer great buys so you can take part.Remember to book Ballina accommodation close to the coastal villages so that you can access the markets easily.

If you are ever in Ballina in time for any of these events, be sure to book a room at Avalon Gardens Motel for a comfortable stay at the lowest rates.
